Who is Tyrian Lodge?

Tyrian Lodge No. 246 A.F.&A.M. has been part of the Garden City community since the early 1880s. Local residents first met in 1884 with the goal of forming a Masonic lodge, and a charter was issued later that year. This established Tyrian Lodge as one of the long-standing Masonic bodies in southwest Kansas.

Historical records from the lodge’s early years are preserved today at the Kenneth Spencer Research Library at the University of Kansas. These materials include bylaws, financial ledgers, a receipt book, and member correspondence dated between 1891 and 1934. Their preservation provides a documented view of the lodge’s operations and the role it played in the community through the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Tyrian Lodge marked its first century of Masonry with the publication of a centennial booklet titled Tyrian Lodge No. 246 A.F.&A.M.: 100 Years of Masonry in Garden City, Kansas, 1885–1985. This work reflects the lodge’s long-standing presence in the region and its commitment to maintaining Masonic traditions across generations.

Today, Tyrian Lodge No. 246 continues to meet regularly under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Kansas A.F.&A.M. The lodge remains part of the broader network of Kansas Masons who work to uphold the values of integrity, fellowship, personal growth, and community involvement.
